I just bought a focal Stellia, and will pair it with a Mojo Chord. I was wondering if upgraded cables are worth the investment, or should I save up for a DAP?
Better save for anything rather than for an expensive cable...
Buying a fancy cable won't IMPROVE the sound, it might however change it, sometimes for a slight gain, but most likely for nothing. A cable act as a filter, not more, whatever the price, the color, the material. The more it cost the more your brain will imagine some kind of improvement.
An simple 5/10 band PEQ will really improve the sound by correcting/adjusting effectively the frequency response with no fuss.
So yes, a good DAP or BT dongle, not necessarily expensive but with a solid PEQ implementation will be way more useful.
Factory Focal cables are really good, make that the last thing to do unless you want balanced ones. I've tried DAPs but now either use a Topping G5 for the laptop or Fosi Audio DS2 for the phone.

The simple explanation is that cables do not audibly change the user experience in any way.
Headphone cables send an amplified signal, which cannot easily be distorted by electromagnetic interference.
Balanced cables are useful only when your amplifier cannot drive your headphones to a satisfactory hearing level. If headphones with unbalanced input are driven by a single amp, then headphones with balanced inputs can be driven by two amps (if your DAC/AMP supports it).
My two cents: spend the money on -- or save the money for -- a quality source that produces minimal noise/distortion/jitter.

To add on this thread, does replacing the focal stellia earpads with ones from dekoni make a big difference? I've heard they used to have focal stellia limited edition ones, but am unsure where to find these as the dekoni webshop doesnt specify them.
Pads do change the sound quite significantly. Namely the material makes the change. Leather, velour, synthetics… Then perforated or not… Thick or thin…
