I know few, if any people will respond to this thread, but i believe it is my duty to inform you of a few of the bands i think have more artistic energy than anything on MTV (or even M2)

here goes:

Hot Water Music :
" Forever and Counting" and "Fuel for the Hate game" have to be two of the most heartfelt, energetic and sincere albums i've ever heard. Many songs are enough to (nearly) bring me to tears.
HWM's new CD, "a flight and a crash" sounds great too, although i've only listened to it twice. seems like HWM has regained the magic that seemed like might dissappear in "No division". HWM seems to be moving from a very emotionally charged and driven sound in forever to a more rocking and rolling (but still very emotional) sound in their new releases.

Sunny Day Real Estate
You may know the drummer and the guitarist (?) from Foo Fighters fame, but this band has much more to offer IMHO."Diary" is a great place to start and has great liner art, a very emotional sound bordering on the alternative (ala foo fighters maybe ). Their new album, "The Rising Tide" is another masterpeice of alternative/indie/pop/emo/whatever and absolutely bursts out of the borders of any sort of mainstream sound (i think at least). very original, very excellent.
Oh yeah, if you ever get the chance, see this band live!! everyone i've talked to has said the same thing: this is the greatest live band EVER (well maybe not ever, but you get the picture)

At the Drive-In
These dudes have gotten a bit of coverage in the mainstream press. I think Rolling Stone called them the best new band of 2000, and i agree completely despite the fact that they've been rocking for a number of years. "Acrobatic Tenement" is without a doubt their crowning glory, although it is a very cheap recording and rather difficult to come across (try cdnow). This CD absolutely burns with raw energy. One listening will leave you spent, the music feeds off of your energy and moves with an insatiable drive that is indescribable. "In/Casino/Out is a much more chill CD, but continues in an even more innovative and original musical path, and is highly reccomended. THeir newest release, "Relationship of Command" regains much of the massive energy of Acrobatic Tenement while progressing musically (it's hard to say that of such of a consistently innovative band). This CD doesn't sound quite as fresh and consistent as "Acrobatic Tenement" though. "Vaya" is excellent and mixes energy with relaxed musical complexity (or something). All mentioned are very highly reccomended however.

That's it folks. theres my sermon for the night. Please pick up one of these recordings or download some MP3's. e-mail me for reccomended song titles if you like. These bands are too good to be ignored.

Diffuser - a good rock band, not very well known, with a very slight hint of punk in them ; seems like there are many people into rock music on this site, and you might like these guys. Check out the tracks "I Am" , "Tidal", and "The Way That I Feel"

Tinfed - In many aspects similar to diffuser, with a bit more of a distinctive sound. I really LOVE their song "Drop", it is one of my favourite songs ever, and I really think that some of you should give it a try, you just might like it.

Powderfinger - absolutely HUGE in Australia!!!! They have been incredibly successful and popular there for many years now....Although overseas they are seldom recognized. Their new single "My Happiness" is gaining a lot of praise from critics and fans alike, in US and Canada now, but still not many people have heard the song. (Referred to as the Tragically Hip of Australia, for all you Canadians here at Head-Fi)

I discovered all three of these bands on the Mission Impossible 2 soundtrack, as I find that listening to soundtracks is one of the best ways to discover new artists and broaden your music tastes.

The MI2 tracks are called:
Powderfinger - My Kinda Scene
Diffuser - Karma
Tinfed - Immune

I hope that some of you take the time to try out a few of these songs, and more importantly, that you find something you like in them.

Anything that is NOT played on the radio or MTV will showcase more musical talent, artistic expression and energy.
examples:
SCOTS
Hum
VOD
Soulfly
Los SuperSeven
Satriani
Nebula
.... i could go on forever

yeah, i think VOD is great. that's judging almost entirely from the self titled (?) album (the one with the green stuff on the cover). I've heard their other stuff ain't as hot, but i really like that album. That's Vision of Disorder, right? my bro told me ther's some other VOD that isn't them.

naw, i haven't heard those bands joe. what kind of music?

VOD has gone through some radical style changes lately. Their new CD definately has less of a hardcore sound. I've only heard the songs they played live off of it though.

I like their album Imprint the most, but it's a little too raw for most people. The self-titled comes in a close second place.

yeah... the new VOD is different, but I am glad they didnt try to do another Imprint. That album is radical and can never be reproduced. For the Bleeders is my second favorite VOD (behind Imprint of course).
