Hi,

Long time reader, first time poster. I recently bought a pair of Beyerdynamic DT770 Pro 80's and burned them in for about a week. For some strange reason I decided to run them through a low frequency sweep. Below 15 Hz it developed a odd hollow sounding clicking/ticking noise from the in the left speaker. Any of you have any thoughts?

Thanks.

I think i'm having the same issue. It happens when there is a low bass i think. An example would be in some of the games i play. Deus Ex Human Revolution does this horrible clicking noise when the bass kicks in when you use the Icarus Landing System. When you fall from a height you will glide down safely and when your feet hit the ground this is when i get this clicking problem. It's same when Dragon's land next to you in Skyrim, it's a horrible noise coming from the headphones but it doesn't do it with every type of bass. Anyone know if they are goosed?

Luckily for you gentso, there an incredibly small amount of music that goes down to 15 Hz with authority, and you can take comfort in the fact that no headphone will produce it with authority either.

Welcome to Head-Fi.

What you're hearing could be an anomaly on your PC if it's not a CD. It could be that you're putting too much power into the 'phones which is a bad thing. There really is no need to test at that low frequency.

Honestly I agree it surprised me that there a sound coming out of them at all. It was just a general sweep with an upper limit of 100 hz...I had to test individual frequencies to find out that it started at 15 hz...and continues to about 5 hz... again it sounds exactly the same from 15 to 5. a very hollow clicking/ticking sound. I have not yet the courage to open them up. I have contacted Beyer but alas I doubt they will get back to me on a Sunday.

Point acknowledged. It is completely true that I would never ever need to "hear" anything below 30 hz. I was just curious. It is indeed running from a PC, although at only a moderate volume. *moderate being a relative term, i don't know how to quantify it.*

Running from a PC.... but running from what? Onboard from the motherboard? A soundcard? If so, which?

You may simply not be supplying enough power to the headphone, and you're hearing clipping. Search "headphone clipping" if you're unfamiliar.

Very best,

Hmmm. it is running off a usb DAC FiiO E7.... and i don't think it is a power issue anymore because as i move my head....and the cable moves the clicking appears and disappears.  More specifically the part where the cable meets with the headphone.

Called the dealer, RMA number received as well as prepaid shipping label and will be sending them for an exchange tomorrow. I was only disheartened by the fact that just as these headphones were starting to sound great this clicking issue arises. Hope #2 will be better.

Once again thanks for the insight/input,

No biggie. It happens. That's why the 30 days exist. Most products are going to die within those 30 days if they're lemons. If it makes it that long, it's likely to be fine for years.

Very best,
