Does anybody know, how to detach the wooden shells from the frame?
After removing the eight screws holding the driver unit, there are no further screws visible as expected, only strange square shaped things.

I read in a review at Amazon that fibers (somewhat looking like hairs) were found in the inner of Hifiman headphones. I can acknowledge this.

Do you have a picture of the exposed driver?

In particular the points where the wiring is soldered to the driver.

Thanks, greatly appreciate it if have those pics.

I won't dismantle the drive itself any further. The soldering points are inside the driver.

I tried to remove the supposed square screw heads with a set of watch winder tools having different sizes around 1 mm without any success.
Finally I applied brute (smooth) force. I took a screw driver to pry it off. These small square heads belong to small nails. The mechanical contacting points were simply glued.

Now the replacing of the cap would be possible, but I need some dumping material.

Interesting how they use that acoustic foam on the earcup.

I've seen something similar on the denon d7200s and the fiio ft1, but the material is different.

Its not an open cell foam like on the sundara but more of like a synthetic wool. Its definitely some kind of synthetic material.

I'm not 100% sure but I believe it helps to disperse the sound to create a larger stage.

This is how it looks on the Fiio ft1.

And the d7200.

Accoustic foam applied: I'm not shure, if it should be reduced, to give more "free" volume.
The frame was attached with smal screws insted of the nails.

They sound a bit dark now. Should I remove some of the foam?
Thats the difficult part about tuning, alot of trial and error to get the sound that you want.

Maybe a thinner layer might give you a better balance?

The R10 contains a star shaped acoustic filter between the driver and the cup.

So I made and applied such in my modified sundara and completely removed the foam.

Are those "caps" from another Hifiman you scavenged parts from or did you buy them off Aliexpress?

Also you say you screwed them in vs nails, do the holes line up?

I bought it @ Ali. In the meantime the R10D is not much more expensive that I paid for the cups and some other parts.
I applied the small screws from the cups. They worked fine.
