I just picked up a Hifiman 603, since the price was only slightly more than the 602.  It is still too early to tell how much I love the device, but it sure does beat carrying around my iPhone / iPod & RSA Tomahawk along with a LOD to get the kind of sound that I feel is acceptable.

I did have a few questions, and was wondering if you guys had any suggestions...

1) How do you charge the device over USB?  I unplugged, plugged it in a few times and noticed one time it did start charging via USB.  The rest of the time, it just mounted it as a disk drive.

2) Why are there more users here on the 602, vs the 603?

3) Has anyone figured out how to play Apple Lossless files on it?  It would be awesome not to have to reconvert everything to FLAC.

4) Is there any way to convert your iTunes playlists over, so that I don't have to recreate them?

5) How do you make a playlist from your computer?  I couldn't figure this out without creating a folder for it, which ends up having duplicate songs.

Thanks!  Any help is greatly appreciated.

There are a lot more 602 users because 603 was released later and only on Hifiman's China website and later on ebay. It was also not actively marketed and not available on head-direct as well.

That makes sense.  It was only like $51 more for the 603 over the 602 in Hong Kong, so it was sort of a no brainer for me.

Do you think there will be less support for it then?

Can you link me to the 603 you speak of? I haven't heard of it before.

I believe there is a thread on head-fi about it.  It has some minor changes compared to the 602.

I pumped that into Google Obliterate, er, Translate and it came back with:

1. All your base are belong to us
2. Resistance is futile
3. Get more inches in days - click here !

Personally, I'd be sticking with the 602.

Just out of curiosity, why would you stick with the 602?  I could understand if the 603 is a lot more, but in my case it was maybe $50 more at max.

Maybe because he already has the 602 and 603 doesn't offer that much? Th resale value goes down so the gap will be bigger than 50$.

Aah yes.. That makes sense.  I misunderstood the response as it would be better to buy the 602 vs 603.

That being said... I wonder if rockbox will work on the 603.

1. No, I dont have the 602, and I hope to bypass it anyway and go straight to the 801 early next year.

2. The 601/602 were both designed to be marketed to an international (ok, English-speaking ..) market, while the 603 appears to be for Fang's domestic market. I dont know exactly what the difference will be in terms of the UI, but my time with the T51 has raised some very large red flags re buying anything that was intended purely for the Chinese market.

3. I still dont trust the QC on the cheaper HiFiMan models, and I have no reason to believe that this would be any better. The 801 remains the only model which doesnt appear to have a black mark against its name on this score.
