HiBy R8 II - HiBy's New High-End DAP

I find too that the r8ii is thicker and more fun, though a tad less detailed and narrower.

The dx340 (which I own with the stock amp) is very wide and detailed but I find it very boring overall, even when paired with “fun” IEMs. TBH I’m not able to justify the crazy amount of hype around it. It’s a good dap, but there are better choices in the same price bracket.
It's funny how subjective this hobby is. Having both myself I sold r8ii because despite more details, better control it lacked body, depth and height. For me r8ii won in detail, black background and dynamics, but it was too intense. After the last update I think that the soundstage was clearly improved, but ibasso still sounded more ... funnier for me

Yeah mate, there’s no “objectively better”. Maybe there is but still it depends on sound preferences.

I do agree with you, for me when I tried the DX340 even with my colored iems sounded a bit boring but I thought with the other amps such as the 14, and 16 you will get a completely different experience that’s I was asking those of you who tried both the R8ii, and DX340.

You know, I had both the R8ii and the ibasso dx340 for about a week. Love the power of the Dx340 and it’s DAC sounds precise and, I think, may edge the R8ii. that being said, my R8ii lasts for days, the Dx340 would barely last a workday on high gain. Hiby software is better as well in a few different ways (Hibycast,Roon ready etc). The dx340 went back and i kept the Hiby R8ii
I do love the modular idea of the DX340. Maybe if it comes in the future as a max version with (much) larger battery, I’ll make the move. For now, I’ve tried the R8, R8ii, and DX340. The R8ii sounds better than the R8, and blows the sad battery life of the Dx340 out of the water. Its my go to for this year, for sure. Intrigued by the amp card idea of ibasso though.

I felt the same way. I think a lot has to do with the iem’s you use and the music honestly.

Seeking audio comparisons of Hiby players with AR-M2 if anyone have compared both brands

I've found that most every IEM I've paired with the R8II (Duality, Alter Ego, Omega, Metalure Wave) has performed well. Ultimately, I am selling my R8 II because I do not have a need for a portable player since I have paired Duality with my studio console and headphone amplifier. I would gladly purchase another should the need arise. It's my favorite DAP next to the N30LE, and its amplifier performance isn't too far off the N30LE.
