Can anyone give me some tips. I have some Shure E5c's which are about 2.5 years old. I did the mod, which took off the memory cable almost immediately but recently the protective sleeve has split on both ears to reveal the wrap around wire. Yesterday I lost sound in one ear where now even the protetive wire has gone, revealing to the outside world the actual wiring. If I touch this wiring though or push the wire slightly into the IEM unit itself, the sound comes back on as it was.
These are obviously out of warranty. The wire is not severed, I don't even think there is a problem inside the unit, I think it is outside. I thought about covering the "wound" in silicone sealant to protect it, but I wanted to know if anyone has had this issue, and whether there is another way of sorting it other than shelling out for another pair - any help, tips, or advice would be gratefully received.
