I was able to listen to BT's "This Binary Universe" DVD-A and am absolutely stunned by it. I was especially taken by track 6, "The Antikythera Mechanism".

I've listened to BT's other stuff which appears to be mostly house/techno/dance type stuff which is not my cup of tea. (Don't really like overbearing, constant beats)

I think I may have heard some aphex twin stuff that's similar. May have to give that a shot...

Other groups I like are Explosions in the Sky and the Album Leaf and Red Sparowes, but not Russian Circles.

check out The Flashbulb.
Krillian selections might be up your alley. track 5 of that CD uses that kind of sampling sound that BT had on Binary universe. but the jem of this CD IMO is track 14, Autumn Insomnia Session. This is some of the best drum work, weather sampled or not, that i have ever heard.

Flashbulb is alot like Aphex Twin - who was his mentor - but is much more controlled and focused. Though he is capable of some pretty solid drum and base.

I'm not sure what you mean by "sampled." Autumn Insomnia Session is a mixture of live and programmed drumming. Aphex Twin, The Flashbulb are part of a genre called IDM. "Drill n' Bass" is the term for the fast-paced IDM flavored by the more traditional "Drum n' Bass." Richard D. James (Aphex Twin) was never a mentor of Benn Jordan (The Flashbulb). Their sounds have been compared however. The Flashbulb is much more diverse, writing more focused music for traditional instruments, as well as out of control glitch-core.

If you want to purchase Kirlian Selections, you can get it fast from Darla.com. They still have stock, but the original label has gone under due to pirating. SO get it quick. It's a majestically beautiful album.

RB67, I don't know much about BT anymore. The Flashbulb and BT are entirely different. I equate BT as, like you said, more trance and the typical 4-on-the-floor sound. If you like Aphex Twin, The Flashbulb is a must!

I'm glad to see other people mentioning The Flashbulb, that's awesome. It's people like this that got me into him in the first place as he's far too obscure for me to have stumbled on to on my own.
