I am looking for earphones that can be worn for long periods of time including in quiet spaces, like a library, with a balanced sound signature, good soundstage, good separation/clarity. I tend to listen to music at higher volumes, with most the vocals being female, and rap by males.

After reading many reviews and searching through both threads of their respective IEM, I am looking for some help in deciding in between the two aforementioned earphones. I read some comparisons in between the A4 and the Triple Driver, but only one in between the A4 and the Quad Driver which was here:

I would like to know a couple more opinions before following a purchase on either of these.

Without regarding that post, most comparisons I have read in between the A4 and the Triple Driver, have the A4 coming out on top on almost everything, and I also have read that the Quad Driver is simply not worth the price jump with the Triple Drivers being the majority of what the Quad Drivers have to offer. Which would follow on to say that the A4 comes on top of the Quads as well. With that said I also have read a significant amount of impressions that say the Quad Drivers are completely worth the difference, and that they bring a more Balanced sound signature, in comparison to the V-Shaped signature brought on by the Triple Drivers. However I have also seen quite a few more neutral reviews/impressions for the Quad Driver (saying that they weren't all that amazed with them) in comparison to the A4s (even when the A4s have a quite a few more reviews/impressions in total).

One thing I also would also like to know is, how horrible are MMXC cables, and how would it affect the longevity of the earphone? I have read a lot about MMXC problems, but I couldn't exactly find how it affects the earphone. Are most problems with the MMXC cable resolved with a simple cable switch? If so, how often would a cable switch be needed for said problems?

Durability is definitely a big factor to me, as at least for me (a student) this price point is rather high, so I am not looking for amazing earphones that will last me a short period of time.

The things that I am most concerned about, are that possibly the Quad Drivers are just hyped up, and the neutral reviews more accurate and the durability of the A4s with their MMXC cable. Another final thing to note, is that if they are very similar in terms what I am looking for, I probably would go with the Quad Drivers due to the in-line controls and them seeming more weather friendly (snow/rain).

Thanks for your time!

Haven't heard the A4 but I will say in my view the Quad is a significant step up from the Triple. There is more detail and better extension on top and down low. In my view, the price difference is well worth it. That's just my take and YMMV--of course.

I actually have both right now. I haven't listened to the LZ A4 much, however, so far. I did some brief testing and preferred the sound of the 1more quads.

The 1more quads are actually really good....It sounds sweeter and somewhat clearer to me than the LZ A4. The LZ A4 with the black back filters have slightly more bass than the quads. Currently, I'm trying out the LZ A4 with black backs and grey fronts. I tried the black fronts and they sounded a bit sibilant to my ears. Female vocals sound better for me on the quads than black(B)/grey(F) LZ A4. The balance also seems better.

I do definitely think there is a noticeable upgrade from the Triples with the quads. The bass is more balanced and has better quality, the mids come out more, and the highs do not sound as bright and edgy. The soundstage of the LZ A4 seems to be slightly better, but the quads also have very good soundstage. The quads are also more comfortable and stay in my ear better. They do not have replaceable cable, but build quality is very good.

You can potentially get them from Amazon to try them out, with the option to return. With the LZ A4 it will be hard to return, just a thought.

Thanks for the helpful replies!! I bought the Quads and am really enjoying them! By any chance do you guys know if the JVC Spiral Dots fit the Quads? They seem to have a rather large nozzle.

I have not tried them on the quads yet but they should fit with some stretching.

Just tried the Spiral Dots and they do fit on the Quads with a little bit of stretching. I actually find the stock silicone tips to work pretty well on the Quads.

I generally prefer foam tips, so I've settled on using Rebound tips (cheaper than Comply), they have a 5.6 mm core one which fits nicely on the Quads. Link: https://www.amazon.com/Rebound-Comf...&qid=1500233509&sr=8-2&keywords=rebound+5.6mm

Since the Quads have a short nozzle, I actually ended up cutting off some of the base of the tip (2-3 mm?), so that it is shorter, and thus fits better on the Quads and less likelyhood of the foam obstructing the mozzle.

Hi, any update on this comparison? What's the better one from a sound perspective only?
