I will be buying this subwoofer; http://www.svsound.com/products/pb-1000
in about a month and im unsure as how i would connect these two, i currently have an unbalanced RCA from my computer 3.5mm jack to the left and right inputs of the monitors.

Thankyou for your replies.

Preamp >> Sub In >> Sub Out >> KRK Rokit 6

The Sub In is just labelled with the right channel as the LFE input because on HT and digital stereo receivers there is only one mono RCA port for the bass signal (since you can use the DSP to increase the low pass crossover setting anyway).

+1

And then set the low pass filter on the back of the sub to 80hz. The line out on the PB-1000 has a high pass filter set to 80hz. If you don't want to use that, you'll have to split the output from computer and send it to both the speakers and the sub, instead of sending everything through the sub first.

I don't have a pre amp, I'm looking to connect all 3 to my laptop

I think what they mean for pre amp is a line level connection. The line out of your laptop is taking the place of pre amp. So 1/8"to RCA' s from the laptop to the subwoofer and RCA's out of it to the monitors and you should be good.

I'm guessing running a 3.5mm (1/8") to dual RCA cable, from the laptop to the RCA inputs on the sub.
Then running a dual RCA to dual RCA from the sub to the studio monitors.

You might also check out this 10" sub-woofer (only $220).

Then hook up the laptop to the sub via 3.5mm to RCA, then the sub to the speakers using whatever cables will allow you to do that.

That said, you really should get some kind of preamp, preferably a DAC+HPamp that has a preamp output. That's how you'll control the volume easily - you set the gain on each monitor equally and then match the subwoofer gain to both, and everything is controlled by the preamp.

If you don't need it to drive headphones, you can get any affordable but good quality USB Audio Interface from wherever you got the KRKs. There's a Focusrite Scarlett that goes for $99.
