Dear HeadFi community,

My Sound Blaster X7's rear speakers output kicked the bucket and I will replace it with a second hand receiver. My budget is humble but I am considering the following alternatives:

Denon X3300 USD 260
Pioneer VSX-84TXSi USD 280
VSX-94TXH USD 280
Yamaha RX-V863 USD 200
Onkyo HT-RC370 USD 240

I will really appreciate your help deciding between these budget bad boys. I am new to the receiver world and fell a little bit overwhelmed with the amount of models and features. Thanks!!!

fair; in that they have probably just pulled their old unit out to replace with a new unit.

if they are selling ‘cheap’, it can be that they are rewarding the buyer with ‘a hassle free sale’ (from their point of view)
in their eyes, their recent effort with the unit (and $ investment) has been high. even thinking about ‘more effort’ regarding a part that exists simply to bring them joy, can seem, subconsciously at least, “too much” (effort).

for buyers, wondering ‘why’ is the unit for sale/selling so cheap, of course they want some sort of guarantee that it is good.

as someone who has about eight receivers sitting in house, I know which two would ‘turn on and work fine’ (for six months even), but would ultimately need some solder reheated around the DTS chip…
they’d pass a tyre kick at sale time,.. so it makes sense of ‘let the buyer beware’, but truthfully, more inclined to buy from a seller I trust. (ie friend of a friend or possibly via a friendface marketplace, where there is mildly more accountability).
I had attempted to search on gumtree, but that seemed to be UK based when I was looking for Canada. (makes sense, the name suggesting Aussie origin)
gumtree killed second hand trading services after it was introduced. and like the free ”the quokka” had killed off (the paid for) ‘trading post’ before it, the quokka disappeared after gumtree ‘got big’; big enough to be nought out by ebay, then the messaging service became ‘highly unreliable’ (and ebay ads appear every tenth ad). ebay has basically killed USING gumtree (for a range of reasons, but no doubt due to them not wanting it to stop users from using/considering ebay..)

nowadays friendface marketplace seems to have taken over.
friendface is an ‘IT Crowd’ reference/joke.. (like ‘Chitter’ etc)

glad to know you got the part you desired ;-)
joy with~
