Hey everyone,

I just purchased the DT 880 250 ohm Beyerdynamic headphones and iv been looking around everywhere for a day or two but i haven't found what Im looking for hopefully someone can help me out here!

So, I bought these headphones to produce with (House, Deep House, Garage) because i am going to Italy for 7 months and where i stay i cant have monitors. My question is should i buy a sound card eg. Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 (i would prefer a soundcard so i can plug my monitors in when i get back) or do i specifically need a headphone amp for these headphones? If so iv seen lots of recommendations on Schiit.

My first impression of the the 880 played through my computer jack which i know can't power them was very confusing just hoping whatever soundcard/amp i buy makes me love them more than i do my HDJ 2000's

Thanks!

FiiO E10K ($76), USB-DAC-amp, should do the job.

I am actually going to use my tiny Schiit Fulla with the 660 ohms version of the DT 880.

I would recommend an amp, but it doesn't need to be an expensive one.

Thanks for the reply's! So you recommend a headphone amp over a audio interface? Sorry in advance don't know much about this stuff and just want the best thing possible for me to make tunes !

Cheers!

You could get by without an amp, but you'll have more headroom with one.

Since you will be producing music, you don't want to skimp on your gear.

Awesome, Thanks for the reply.

About the Schiit Fulla they say this

Schiit Fulla $79

How about high-impedance headphones, 300 ohms and 600 ohms?
This is our most voltage-limited amp, which, in English, means it will be least capable to drive high-impedance headphones. However, even for 300 ohm Senns and 600 ohm Beyers, it’s still going to be tons better than the output of an iPhone or computer.

Schiit Magni $99

So did you say these amps will drive any headphone?
Yes. Except maybe the HE-6. That’s about it.

In this case i would rather just spend that little more for the Magni is that a good idea?

It's not necessary. The 250 ohms DT 880 is even easier to drive than mine. And with the Fulla, you get a DAC as well, though it may not matter.

If you really want preamp outputs for active monitors, the Magni 2 Uber has them, but I wouldn't get it unless you are going to use harder-to-drive headphones in the future.
