well i was thinking of getting the porta corda all along anyways, since meier has a good price on the senn 580 as well, so i thought i should get them both at the same time....

But now i have this urge to get a new pcdp....so i ditched the whole porta corda and senn580 thing....

Im currently looking at a sony 1000 or 925 cd player, and i'm on JMT's waiting list for a CHA47...

I just can't believe you said that.

That was silly.

What's wrong with the PC? It's qute an enjoyable little amp, and especially so when you feed it more than 9 volts.

make sure the battery is fully charged anyway, alkaline preferably! =) it makes a big difference, a fresh and a half depleted alkaline sounds totally different.

/me actually likes my TA the best when batteries are nearly dead

To clarify..............

I was not slamming the PC, just the fact that the poster was not going to buy a TA based upon one single post that shows up when hundreds of posts say it's nice.

What is the power rating of the TAH?

If the old Panasonic player were to be 15mw x 2, and the TAH were say 10-12mw x 2, then there would be distortion quicker... no?

Modern PCDPs have got such BS opamps that the TAH would be a welcome relief to most people, but someone with an older, more powerful player - would they still reap the benefits?

...That being said, my 9v CHA47 goes DAMNED loud!!

just a thought though??

Actually, the TAH is rated at 21mW x 2 at 30 ohms, OR 10mW x 2 at 100 ohms, OR 4mW x 2 at 300 ohms (RMS, not PMPO or maximum). By contrast, that old Panasonic is rated at 15mW x 2 at 16 ohms (maximum).

Note how the power output really goes down with impedence of headphones. Look at the big impedence spike of the HD600's/580s at 100 hz. And that is were power is NEEDED.
This explains why most amps don't like the HD600.
