HD555 frequency response

whats up with the 10db dip at 6khz and the 25 db dip at 16khz? people say these are phones with flat response and grados are colored. the measurements don't say so. is this a function of the angled drivers creating this response with the ears. people say these cans are more neutral than grados. can anyone explain this

Sennheiser has this design 'guideline' of inserting a dip or 'notch' in the response at 5 and 16 Khz. more info

Stereoplay's measurements, btw, look different...:

andrea, would the 555 sound good with a portable(noamp) and is the 595 a worthy upgrade from the 555 if no amp is used

Yep, I think the 555 would sound good 'unamped'. It's a very efficient phone, so, provided that the source is good sounding, that is.
Probably the 595 isn't a worthy upgrade unless you have at hand some kind of 'amped' headphone jack to hook it to.
