Has anyone uses/used IsoClean audio-grade fuses?

What's next? gold plated circuit boards?

What do you mean your circuit boards are not gold plated?!

Only thing I can think of when I hear the word platinum is one of my staff's engagement ring. The ring cost almost as much as my Civic.

EDIT - The husband-to-be is a turntable nut from what I hear.

Has anyone heard about or tried these things? I'm not planning on getting them, but was just curious if anyone else has.

it's a glass-encased fuse - ugh.

glass-encased fuses never work as well as the sand-filled ceramic cover types.

What's the benefit of sand-filled ceramic cover types over glass-encased fuses? FYI, I'm genuinely curious since I don't know the differences between two fuse types.

offhand:

- breaking capacity: glass low ceramic high. when breaking capacity is exceeded, the fuse blows. glass can blow spectacularly if, say, one completely forgets to figure in inrush current when choosing a fuse, sending molten metal and glass fragments flying around. not good.
- fragile: glass >>> ceramic. i've lost count of the number of glass fuses i've shattered between my fingers while replacing in fuse sockets with especially tight fingers.
- glass is not effective: i've seen fuse wires melt/evaporate, deposit on the glass and then continue to conduct.

the sand absorbs and dissipates any molten metal, and more importantly - heat. think akin to mixing in a bit of water in flour.

afaik and ime, the only possible advantage that glass can have over ceremic is that with glass, it is possible to visually confirm that the fuse is blown.

Last night I listened to a rig that had Isoclean fuses throughout. I had no idea what he was talking about until he explained. I didn't know how much fuses cost until reading this thread, so yeah...$25 for a glass fuse vs some $.25 ceramic jobby does seem ludicrous until I remembered what one of the guys who was there last night mentioned. This guy is very frugal, hates tweaks of all kinds, but was advised by a buddy to at least give them a shot, the deal was that if he couldn't hear a difference, his friend would buy them all from him at the price he paid and therefore, it was a no risk no hassle deal. He tried them in his pre and power amps and he said it was like he bought a new preamp when he initially just tested it there. He remarked how the change was so dramatic that swapping tubes and cables never gave him the same degree of change. He lives close by, and we have very good clean power. He's tried most of the filters/conditioners out there and never felt they did anything so he went with the unit that provided him security on the cheap. So he is not a guy with more money than brains and when he said these things, I was curious and did a search. Perhaps giving them a try wouldn't be so bad? $25 is not much to lose when one is plugging them into an amp that retails for 5k. I'll report back when I know more.

Just came across this thread and yes, I have just tried them out in a modified (by "The Upgrade Company" Esoteric UX-1. I listened to a set of opera CDs before and after and was taken back by the difference - I really had not expected it. Before the fuses the CDs sounded edgy and suffering from digitatis.

After, maybe not audiophile quality, but the edginess had gone.

Don't ask me to explain this - it still seems like voo-doo to me but I cannot deny what I heard.
