What is the best portable (about the sized of 4 cd jewel boxes stacked)generally cd player available at the present time? In the past the mags have raved about the Ratshack and early Sonys, but what's out there now?

EDIT: Found it. Amadana CD player. Goes by other names as well. Can be purchased on Aliexpress and a few other sites.

The Sony Walkman portable player is a good one. Especially since it takes AA batteries, so you can get rechargeable ones and swap them out as needed.
