Maybe a ALO cryo-dock would help (cheaper alternatice to a Hornet)??
Morph,
I believe you're on the right track with this statement, but that's just my opinion (as will the rest of this post be)...
You've got a great iPod and a nice little amp there, but if you're feeding it with a simple mini-to-mini from the iPod's crappy headphone-out to the Go-Vibe (which you are), you're kinda missing the whole point of having an amp in the first place, aren't you? So, yeah, you should try a line-out from the iPod to the Go-Vibe as your first step. An ALO Cryodock? I wouldn't go that far unless there's a RSA amp in your near future. Spend $50 on a Turbo Diabolous V (PM Head-Fier TURBO for details & pics) or buy one of Ken (ALO's) lower-end line-outs.
If that doesn't do the trick all by its lonesome, then invest the $25 more into the Go-Vibe's recommended Elpac power supply. I don't have one - I'm trying to be totally transportable so I run off battery power only - but many Go-Vibe owners claim the Elpac changes the amp's sound dramatically! Maybe one of then could chime in here?
If you take these 2 steps you'll be out $75. If it doesn't do the trick, and I honestly cannot imagine it won't, you'll have a couple of new pieces of useful headphone-related gear you wouldn't have regretted buying and you can use the cable with the Hornet you buy if tha is your ultimate solution to your problem.
I don't have Shures. I have Ety ER4P's. IEM's don't need the greatest amp in the world to sound good (says the guy with a Tomahawk on the way . . .
). My Ety's are presently plugged into a Go-Vibe (9V) and an iPod Nano via a Turbo Diabolous V line-out. It is a fantastic listening session each time I sit down. Please try the simple solution first. You've got nothing to lose, really!
