Well I am looking for a tube amp with a dac and this popped up. What can you tell me and how well does it work?

Please move to full size amps.

No one responded to this yet?  I'm surprised this amp isn't getting more mileage here.  It's the best amp I've ever heard, and I've had an admittedly small but somewhat impressive array of cool amps.

Anyway, I love this amp, in every possible way there is to appreciate a piece of audio gear.  It's just all around awesome in every sense.  If you get a good deal on one, you'll love it, assuming you have the headphones that match well with it.

I don't have the specs on it, but I have a lengthy review available here, (assuming you haven't already read it).

Hi just found out about this cool amp actually yesterday and it is very nice .how do you think it would match with the markled d-5000 i guess if its ok with the 2000 being same driver it would be ok . im no pros but i have heard that for low imoedance phones you need a transformer coupled amp is this the case with this not shure i think its what they call OTL AMP transformerless . anyways the phones are 25 ohms on the glow site they say from 32 -600 ohms i think.and i coulndt find the output impedance for the headphone lower is better  and its $768.00 bucks expensive what do you think of this or anybody else. Thanks

I used it with my modified D2000 and absolutely loved it.  It was the best combo ever.  I only sold my D2000 because the bass is pumping on it, and I have ear damage which requires a headphone with weaker, lighter bass.

Anyway, as I recall I simply used a resistance cable (a home made 235-ohm cable made by another headfier in Canada for me), and it worked perfectly fine.  No hum, no problems, sounded totally great.  Never heard the D2000 sound better.

I'm sure the D5000 would be awesome.

Hello Kouzelna - I recently picked up the Glow Audio Amp amp, a few months, and have been loving it. Currently I have been listening to it through my Grado 325's and the Voice One Speakers and Sub. I find it to be very warm and sophisticated. Listening to it through headphones has been ecstacy! There has been a whole new level of detail that has been uncovered. As far as speaker wise, I find that the Voice Ones and Sub are more that adequate for the room that I am playing it with. My turntable and CD player have never sounded better. Mind you that my turntable and CD player are rather low grade and I am curious to see how higher end components will fair out. My turntable is a Audio Technica LP120 running thought a Musical Fidelity V-LPS II and my CD player is an old Sony CE375. In time I will be making some upgrades but for the time being, I am a happy camper. The Glow Amp has been a lot of playing with and I have some new set of tubes coming soon to play with.

I don't have much to compare it to but here's what I've found.  The built in DAC is worthless, my iBasso D10 is miles ahead as a USB DAC.  Then there's the hum. First I tried an impedance adapter despite already using high impedance cans (HD650s), which did very little to help.  I then tried different tubes which also changed nothing. I sent the amp in for repair and Glow Audio doesn't do in house repairs, they had me send it to a third party shop that they recommended.  The tech said he reduced the hum as much as possible but could not get rid of it completely.  It is better and I was happy at first but months later the hum is bothering me.  I bought the amp new but second hand on ebay so the warranty was void and repairs came out of my pocket, although the shop did offer me a discount.  I should have bitched more to Glow as I am not satisfied but I probably have waited to long.  I will be selling it soon I think despite the fact that it does sound good when the music is loud enough to cover the hum.

Hi tronburgandy, sorry I was away so long between posts.  In the middle of moving.  Anyway, if nobody's already said it, welcome to Head-Fi and sorry about your wallet!  Love the name, by the way.  Anchor Man is probably my all-time favorite comedy.

So glad you liked the Glow.  Man, I really feel the same way.  Nothing I've heard has even compared as of yet.  Jealous about the speakers you have, I was dreaming of having an all Glow setup as well, as they are designed for each other specifically.  Must sound just great, and it'd be perfect size for my setup.

supra1988t, sorry you're having so many problems with it.  Sad, I always had top service from Glow, they were extremely helpful.  I'm bummed you got it through a second-party.  I got mine directly from Glow and had zero problems beyond what's been mentioned, all of which were easily solvable for me and for which I had one-on-one service and feedback anytime I needed it from Glow.

I also had the hum problem, of course, but solved it in two ways:  first, I simply plugged the Glow in at a different location in my home.  The cut about 80% of the problem right there, as I think originally it was on a bad socket or just in a bad spot getting other interference.  The second thing, was getting the right impedance cable for my headphones, as already mentioned.  Though an HD650 I would think would not need any, as the Glow is actually designed for 300-ohms like those cans are.

I agree with you however that the USB DAC was not helpful to me, at all.  However, this was not an issue for me as I did not need to use it, and it was not the reason I bought the amp which was to use it as a quality headphone amp, nothing more.  This, it did wonderfully.  I hope you are either able to find a better solution to your problems and enjoy the unit, or you'll have good luck selling it to someone who will be happy to accept the challenge.  Good luck either way, and if you sell then may your next amp be the perfect match for you.

Thanks for the advise Kouzelna.  As far as getting it second hand, it was actually a gift that was purchased on ebay.  I did try different outlets with little if any difference but I think I am going to take it over to my parents house and see if it makes a difference.  I notice a much much milder hum of similar frequency on my home stereo so I wouldn't be surprised if that has something to do with it, I have actually been researching AC power conditioners tonight.  I actually have an impedance cable that I bought for my DT-1350s before I had the Senns and it makes very little difference with the HD650s.  Its probably not as bad as I am making it out to be but I sit in front of a computer 30+ hours a week and usually have headphones on so it probably is more noticable to me after 8 hours.  The reviews raved about how quiet the Glow was so its just a bit disappointing.

supra1988t, mine was dead silent once I worked out the kinks.  That's what I loved about it: it's like the music was coming from space.

Keep trying; perhaps it's just one of the things we mentioned.  I really hope it works out for you.
