If you're running an older VMWare release, you're probably fine. If you're running Windows Server (or desktop), you're definitely fine. If you're running VMWare 6.5 or 6.7...order something else. It's not for a lack of trying.

This card has an Intel chipset, so I'm thinking 'oh, it's pretty well supported'. Card says VMWare support as well, so I order it for a client..and then promptly proceed to have it not-detected. Found people saying that it works after a firmware upgrade, so I went down that rabbit hole. Dell's LifeCycle Controller method won't upgrade it because it's not one of the Dell blessed cards. 10GTek doesn't offer this firmware on their website, and they don't respond to an attempt to get support via Skype...ask me how I know these things. I put the card in a Windows box, and the Dell firmware update wouldn't work there, either - tried that two different ways. Finally came full circle and found the package to update it within VMWare directly. It says it took...and still isn't detected, even after a reboot as shown.

So, these cards will likely find a home in some Windows servers somewhere, and to 10GTek's credit, they did function well in the Windows machines, complete with all the pro grade Intel features like VLAN tagging and NIC teaming. But...warning all of those planning on using them in VMWare 6.5++...don't.

UPDATE: Added these cards to a set of Windows servers for another client. Added a star because these cards worked well in both the 2012R2 and 2016 servers, without any need for a driver install or configuration. Cards work great with the Ubiquiti 10GbE fiber SFP modules I purchased with them. The individual(s) I've contacted via Skype have been very responsive, pleasant, and helpful. If you have Windows servers, these cards are definitely recommended.
