Photo reports from previous years.
My report:
Ill share few photos. Best sounding rig where we spent most time had Elfton speakers. Best money no object rig was red snails powered by Mcintosh of course.
Best headphones I heard were from Abyss (Diana DZ, Joal) but my 100usd Sennheiser HD540 were on acoustic genres even better. I have heard also 2 headphones from Final audio (D8000DC and DC Pro), Verum One, new Sennheiser Hd550 ( i preffered it to HD600). HD550 has better tonality then HD540 for modern music, but is no match for brighter HD540 in spatial presentation and details and in some types of music where brighter tonality is better. I do not like HD600 because it sounds too soft (mushy).
They had no Hifimans to compare or Aune or Fiio headphones. But I heard again Focal Stellia, which I still like a lot, Meze Empyrean 2 and Grado HP100. Grado had more emphasis on treble then Final Audio or Verum. Dan Clarks two closedbacks (Stealth and Noire X). Stealh was definitelly on Stellia’s level. I would be happy with any of Verum, Abyss, Grado or Final Audio. I compared these on same Feliks Audio Euforia Evo valve headphone amp. But my Hd540 from eBay bested all of them on purely accoustic genres.. Only Diana DZ showed more detail, otherwise Hd540 has comparable detail to them and more detail then new HD550. I liked HD550 a lot tonality wise and frequency response wise for modern music. I would recommend it over any other available Sennheiser headphones as your first nice sounding headphone for easy listen.
I did not like Empyrean 2 as much as I would like. Its sound is too balanced and tiny bit boring.
I also heard and liked Warvick Acoustic Sonoma M1 electrostatic amp with Bravura headphones. They were on same or slightly better level than Diana DZ, but clamping force was too high on them. Unbearably high.
Then I heard Stax SR-X9000 but loudness of the room was too high for their evaluation.
More details on comparisons of "current flagships" to HD540 here.
