I literally have NO idea how to get these components to work together, though I've heard many espousing their benefits on other forums. any help?
Foobar2000 + WASAPI + SoX?

First download the Wasapi Output from Foobars website.http://www.foobar2000.org/components/view/foo_out_wasapi
Then download the SOX Resampler from this website http://www.hydrogenaudio.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=67373
Once you have downloaded both DLL files, drag them into your Foobars directory COMPONENTS folder. Then restart foobar and from the preference menu, you can configure the outputs. To activate WASAPI, go to OUTPUT and select WASAPI from the device drop down menu. As for the SOX resampler, go to Playback -> DSP Manager. From there add the SOX sampler from the right to the left, from there you can also customize your own settings with sox.
After that, you should be all set, works really well, i'm using this combo as well. Hope this helps. Enjoy!

no problem. WASAPI is stock settings, you dont have to do anything other than just selecting it and using it. Its to block off any external sounds/noises that might interfere with your player. Meaning once you have WASAPI activated, you can only listen to music from foobar and nothing else, such as watching youtube etc...
SOX settings im using
Target sample rate AT 96000hz
Quality - BEST
passband - 95%
Phase Response - 50% Linear
Basically these are stock settings i think.

Just tried this combo with my HRT microStreamer and AKG K550, and I definitely hear an improvement. Testing with Diana Krall/Live in Paris/I Love Being Here With You (16bit/44khz FLAC), the sound stage becomes slightly larger, like the singer takes three steps back and the stage is lifted 1 meter. In addition, the sounds that before were just fuzzy in the background, like the "hiss" from the cymbal, is focused. It feels like the hiss that before was mostly noise in the background is attached to the cymbal. Might this be better "timbre" that I hear?
A thought, can resampling really do what I hear, how could frequency conversion improve the sound? As I said, I'm using a microStreamer, might the D/A process benefit from a higher resoultion, or am I just experiencing what is actually some kind of distortion as an improvement?
