here's a silly question: Is there a way to configure the foobar search function to be nearly identical to the winamp one? or better yet, is there a way to configure any of it in the first place?

What kinds of functionallity does the Foobar search lack that you would like?

mainly formatting of the search results and the extent of the search (like in winamp, i can type in flac to give me everything that has flac in the file path/name or the tags).

To add file extention searching support to the search box go to Preferences -> Display -> Playlist search and add ;filename_ext to the end of the Fields to scan box. You can seach any field you want to (check out the Fields section at the top of the titleformatting_help.html file in the Foobar2000 folder, all those are available just remove the %_ at the beginning and the % at the end).
