I have Foobar2K v.0.8.3 special on my Windows XP PC. Once every couple of weeks, when I turn on the PC and start Foobar, I find a little error screen that pops up with Foobar screen and find that Foobar has reset itself to default settings. I have to re-choose all my own output mode, playback controls, window size, etc, etc.

But the most annoying thing is that this wipes out my playlists. The "playlist A" file still exists, but songs on the file will be wiped out, leaving only few songs left on the playlist.

What the heck is going on and how do I prevent this?

When I finish listening, I push "stop" on foobar, close the program, and turn off the PC properly. So it's not b/c of improper PC shutdown..

Mine, did that too. Annoying as heck. All I can say is back up your CFG.

What's CFG? Do you still have problem with this on a regular basis?

In your foobar folder there is a file called "foobar2000.cfg", that file has your information. Back it up and when foobar messes up on you you can just replace it. It has only happened once to me and I've been running it for 3 weeks maybe.

I've never had that happen, been using foobar for at least 2 years.

This happens whenever the .cfg file becomes corrupt, usually from foobar being improperly shutdown. I'd recommend making backups of the foobar .cfg file. Also, always exit foobar before shutting down your computer, the Windows forced exit of running application sometimes doesn't leave enough time for foobar to write out it's config file.

I uninstall/reinstalled Foobar and today when I turned on the PC, it did it again!

Console
Error[core]: Error reading Configuration file
Info[core]: Startup time: 297 ms

I do close the foobar by clicking on the X on the foobar window every time, unless there is a better way of properly shutting down Foobar?

I believe my problem may be the fact I'm using Viewsonic wireles airpanel LCD with my audio PC, from which I cannot turn off the computer from the "start" button on L botom corner. So after I close the foobar window, I have been turnin off the PC by pressing on the "on/off" button on the PC case itself.

Crap, this means I have to have another monitor/mouse hooked up to PC via cables just to to shutdown from the monitor window???!!

Or will it work if I close foobar window and wait a long time before pushing "off" button on the PC case? I think I've done this in past, and error may have happened even then.

I'm looking in Foobar2K folder, and I see folders called components, icons, playlists, and other icons, but no file that says "foobar2000.cfg." Where exactly is this? Thanks.

It might be a hidden file.

-Goto the Foobar folder.
-On the toolbar click Tools
-Folder Options
-View tab
-In advanced settings Click "Show Hidden files and folders"
-Apply and OK

What do you mean you can't turn you computer off at the start menu. If you can't see if your display settings are messed up. Also your computer button MIGHT not shutdown the computer. It just might turn it off, there is a difference.

Ah, cfg was a hidden file, and I now found it. Will backing up cfg restore the songs saved on playlists also, or should I back up the playlist folder as well?

As far as my Viewsonic Airpanel, it is connected wirelessly via USB port of PC, so it is not allowed to shutdown the main PC wirelessly. I thought the "on/off" button on PC case front (not the power button on the back) will be just like the "shutdown" command from "start," but maybe not ...

No you shouldn't have to, only your CFG gets corrupted.

Does it say shuting down computer? Or does it just go off.

Looks like the on/off button just shuts off the computer, so I'm going to try to push the "reset" button on the PC first, which should end all programs, then push "off" button. I've backed up cfg and my fingers crossed.

No you don't want reset. That is just as bad. You need to shutdown the computer or you might be able to go into your BIOS and change it.
