Hi guys, I recently installed foobar 2000, and have starting listening to my music a lot more. However earlier today I transferred some of my tracks over to my htc one (m7), and listened to them using beats audio. I actually really like how the bass becomes boosted and for the sort of music I listen to (fast paced bass heavy hardcore/speedcore) it sounds fantastic.

However I want to achieve the same effect in foobar 2000, but i'm unsure whether I can do this with EQ settings. I've tried fiddling with the settings a bit, but I don't really know what I'm doing. Could someone possibly provide me with a preset or help me adjust my EQ correctly?

I'm using a pair of audio technica m50x's and when connected to my desktop it's just connected to the build in realtek audio.

Also I can't get my m50's to go as loud as I would like them on my desktop PC, compared to my phone. Do I need an amp to get higher volume? If so what's a nice cheap amp from amazon that would do the job?

Cheers.

You could try something like the Fiio E12, it has a nice bass boost feature to it and a great clean sound. For a desktop amp, the Schiit Magni or O2 seem to be popular options. For EQ, try raising the far left bar +10db and the one next to it +5db and then hit auto-level (you always want to EQ down, not up, so you aren't trying to add info that isn't there). That should be a good starting place. There are a few basshead threads I'm sure you could find info in as well.
Good luck!

If you're going to use Foobar EQ, I recommend you get xnor's Graphic Equalizer plugin. It gives you 31 sliders, one for each 1/3 octave, for a more customized curve. It will also automatically turn the overall gain down (like the auto-level button) when you boost frequencies, to prevent clipping.

I don't know what exactly the Beats Audio is doing to the frequency response, but try boosting the frequencies near 100 Hz. This frequency has the most effect on bass impact, and you'll find that a lot of headphones have a peak here in the bass as a result. Frequencies around 50 Hz might make the bass too slow and thick sounding for you, and anything from 200 up will start encroaching on the midrange.

Very true about the different ranges, I just assumed Beats was going for the deep hip-hop sound their market craves. Perhaps a quick search of the Beats software could tell you which frequencies are primarily being boosted.
