Hey I'm new to Head-Fi and I'm stuck between two choices. I can either get the Senn HD 600 W/ The Schiit Magni/Modi combo or the HIFI MAN HE-500 with just an amplifier (I would be using my Macbook Pro's DAC and using either the fiio e12 amp or the schiit vali amp).
 
Is the HE 500 more picky about the type of source used to run it than the HD 600????
 
And If I do choose the planar magnetic headphone wich of those two amps would run it better?

It makes more sense in terms of the total system (and the balance between 7 among all parts of that system) to get the HD 600 package.
 
With the HE 500 you need to be thinking Asgard 2 and up for a system that will start to deliver what the HE 500 is capable of providing.

I can get a respectable sound on my HE-400s with an E12; but that's a different model of course.
 
As above I would lean towards the HD600 combo for better all-round uses/genres.
