Hi everyone, I'm fairly new to the audiophile world but am on a mission to find my first set of closed back headphones for an office environment. I currently own the Sennheiser HD 490 Pro which I do like but unfortunately being that they are open back don't do a great job of isolating sound.

I have a budget of $500-600 and I'm looking for something that isolates well, is comfortable for long working sessions and aesthetically doesn't look too bulky for work meetings/calls. Originally I had my eye on the FiiO FT1 which I've heard fantastic things about for the price, but unfortunately I think they look a little too bulky for work calls.

I am open to suggestions and am hoping to pick something up during Black Friday / Cyber Monday sales. Some options that are currently on my shortlist include:
  • DCA Aeon Closed X
  • Aune SR7000
  • Austrian Audio Hi-X55/60
Appreciate any insight you can provide.

Welcome to Head-Fi,

I don't dabble in many closed back headphones, but the answers to these two questions might help others in narrowing down suggestions.

What music do you listen to?

Which Amp and DAC will you be using to drive them?

Hi there, thank you for your response. I would be using a Topping E2x2 OTG audio interface to drive them. As far as music preferences go, it varies greatly depending on the day. With that being said, I do appreciate a punchy bass but nothing too muddy. I'm looking for a good all-rounder as I do some content creation and streaming things part time as well.

I've got the Dan Clark Aeon closed and they're great with the black foam inserts. Also have a Beyerdynamic MMX300 with its wonderful mic for calls or gaming. Both are solid choices.
