Hi there,

I've used this site on and off for about 4 years now. I don't think I've ever posted anything, just read lots of different reviews and opinions. A few years back I made my first purchase of 'proper' cans and bought myself some Sennheiser HD555's which I've been very happy with. (Big thanks to all!)

However, times have changed, I've grown up, and after making a carefully calculated decision, I decided to buy the Denon AH-D2000's. I've heard from many sources that this headset will require an amp to run effectively, so that's where I need you guys to help me!

The headphones are yet to arrive, so I can't comment on whether or not I'm happy with them as they are, but I figured if they need an amp, I best get one asap. From what i've heard, they're quite greedy headphones, so I can only imagine that using them without an amp would be a bit pointless.

The amp MUST be portable, as I'll be using it on many plane journeys in conjunction with my iPod. I also need to be able to use it from my laptop's USB, as I listen to a lot of music from there too.

Budget: preferably around the £125 ($200) mark. Please make sure I can purchase it in the UK rather than importing (too many charges etc involved)

Ones I've looked at already include:

Nu Force Icon Mobile - High Performance Headphone Amplifier Red - Superior Soun HiFi Headphones <<< Nu Force icon (any good?)

Ibasso D2+ BOA (what is the difference between the D2+ and the D2?)

Any other suggestions are more than welcome.

Any help would be great. Thanks!

I have the AH-D2000s and have used them with my Fiio E5 (sound ok), but with my Practical DEvices XM5 with iPod line out they sound spectacular. I've never listened to them unamped as I can't see them sounding to well. The XM5 is a little pricier but wow! I find myself listening to my ipod at work on my lunch break, at home before bed (losing sleep because of how good they sound)
