There's irony for an Audio Dealer who has lost his hearing and what was once considered second best, 'Headphones' may be the best available option to bring the music back. I've not been a lurker or one looking to hook up with potential customers (that's why I've always avoided joining audio boards) but this is something completely different and new to me. I need the wisdom and help of others more experienced and wiser than me to possibly get the joy of music back.
My hearing was severely damaged during a recent run of experimental drugs to treat a disease that has left me about 99% blind so far. I know it's just too ironic. I have noise like an air-hose and high-pitched 2K hz and up constant noise in each ear. My business is down since I've closed the demo rooms for now to rethink 'what now'. It's time to think and listen outside the box and explore headphones.
Here's where you may be able to help. My sin was listening to the sound and not the music. I loved the sound of YG Speakers and miss them very much ... Now I realize that the music is missing and it would be nice to have it while there is at least the ability to hear.
So detail with fairly flat response, I have a large library of hi-rez and DSD files. Here are the questions:
Would Audeze be a good starting point? I like the idea of an open, full sound that doesn't seem to need layers removed for the music to breath. Is balanced going to offer a significant advantage with the right components?
I'm like most of you, I don't have local hi-end stores and getting to shows is a logistical problem.
