I've owned my Fiio X3 II now at least half a year or so and after the last firmware update I'm semi puzzled on how the low pass filter mode works. Can anyone explain exactly what this does with this model? It seems to me when I have it set to "steep", the highs are kind of brittle and recordings where there's a lot of loud high frequencies sound brash. What is the best way to attenuate these? I've tried using the EQ (against my beliefs for pure audio) to cut the 8000kHz band and it does help but it seems to me that there's got to be a better way.

GD, a low-pass filter works by cutting some of the higher frequencies to reduce noise.

The default setting on the X3 II is "Steep" as it reduces more noise. However, the filter on the X3 is set at well above 50khz, so it really shouldn't matter. I would say set it to gradual unless you have noise issues.
