FiiO HiFi desktop active speaker User survey (1) Is the Bluetooth function necessary? Or should we place costs on sound quality as much as possible?

Some time ago, we shared a lot of eliminated ID designs for desktop active speakers. In fact, we have basically determined the final ID design and will further work on it later. However, we still have many questions and we need your suggestions.

Today, we would like to hear your opinion on the Bluetooth function. We've done some research before. The result was that consumers did want the Bluetooth function. As a HiFi-level speaker, the Bluetooth function should be attached importance, which means that at least it should support high-definition Bluetooth such as LDAC and aptX HD.

In this case, it will inevitably increase a lot of costs. Moreover, FiiO's HiFi active speakers are mainly used with FiiO's products, such as desktop DAC/Amps and music players, which already support the highest Bluetooth codecs. Therefore, do you think it is necessary to add the Bluetooth function?

Yes Bluetooth is must, we do have Bluetooth fucntion in the k9 pro or the DAP i am planning to buy but the source is always a phone for me.
And given the speaker you are planning is active it reduces the hassle for us to turn on a dedicated amp or dac, a Bluetooth will further enhance that.

Well its always nice to add Bluetooth but honestly giving a option to add the BTA30pro for better placement of the antenna would be ideal.

the DAC being away from the speakers would minimise noise.

I have BT connectivity for my desktop powered monitors and BT the dac amp that it's connected to on my computer, I never use that feature. As a desktop solution I personally think it's not necessary to have BT function since the computer should be the source, but if it's a bookshelf speaker that's meant to be used away from the computer, BT would be nice.

Its would an active speakers, no external amp or power source is required, so i think it can be used seperate from pc

For my experience, i'd rather a full focus on audio quality and purity, bluetooth is not that useful. I usually only think of bluetooth for phone calls.

Unless it's an active monitor to serve as an alternative to a Genelec, some measure of convenience is a must, hence BT is probably going to be why people will buy it to keep their desks clean. Second is probably size but people buying Fiio will be less averse to that short of 8in midwoofer monitors.

I mean if it's with a laptop or even some desktops, save for those with a remote server, it's more likely that music is streamed rather than using FLAC off a microSD card. That's exactly how I have my desk set up right now, but my speakers are still using analogue inputs and I just used a BT dongle (Creative Pebble II). My main listening rig - a Meier Cantate.2 driving an HD600 - is fed by a DAP's line out that I control via an app on my phone (since the X-series is gone and so is using the DK1) and is set up on a different table with a chair that is more stable when reclined more than my computer chair.

Just saw James's FB post on SP3. I think SP3 must compete with the iLoud speakers, which is often selling at USD199. It's a tough game.
Bluetooth is a MUST. This give SP3 a chance to compete with some of the standalone bluetooth speakers. This market, I think, is less mature. My two cents.
