I'm looking for a new IEM, I have the FH7 and I love its sound so I'm obviously leaning toward the FD7 but I've heard great stuff about the Timeless. Does anyone who's heard both have any thoughts? Thanks.

I would expect the FD7 to be as different from the FH7 as the Timeless as they use completely different driver setups. There won't be too many here that have heard all 3 so you'd probably be best off to describe what kind of sound and experience you're looking for and also of there's anything you're really "allergic" to. Doing it this way makes it easier for others to chime in and together they will paint your picture.

I would suggest asking this question on the specific FD7 forum thread where I know some people also have the Timeless...

I just pulled the plug on the FH9s so I'll post my impressions in that thread, but what I love about the FH7 is the extremely fast dynamics and bass response, detail retrieval and imaging.

I have both.

The Timeless are outstanding for their price.

Out of the box — I don't care much for burn-in although I agree it can make a small to big difference depending on the driver(s) — the FD7 are equally outstanding.

With the bass nozzle on the FD7, I find them to share many traits with the Timeless despite their different drivers and setup.

The only exception to this is the sub-bass where the Timeless have the edge (or at least more of it).

But that says a lot in favour of the FD7 as I find planars to have the technological upper-hand (generally-speaking).

At their price, the Timeless are a no-brainer but the FD7 are clearly the most flexible of the two.

Both compete way above their respective price range.

Nota bene: I used both IEMs with Final E tips, balanced, running from a brand new M11 Plus LTD with the Super Slow Roll-off filter (yes it makes a difference and those of you who sold your M11 Plus LTD without trying the filters: you should have :P).

Thanks, this helps a lot. How's the dynamics and detail retrieval on the Timeless? Honestly that's why I love the FH7 so much, it's so fast and clear, and sounds pop out individually from all over the place, it's not flat at all but still balanced. And do they have any glaring weaknesses (either headphone)?

Remember that the FD7's DD is pure beryllium and the FH7's is beryllium-plated.
Moreover, the FH7 has 4 BAs, the FD7 is a simple, single, DD.

With that said, FD7's and Timeless' dynamics are relatively similar. Detail retrieval as well.

This is what I meant by "says a lot in favour of the FD7 as I find planars to have the technological upper-hand (generally-speaking)."

My understanding (happy to be corrected) is that planars are really fast, which is also the point of a beryllium driver.

Again though — price.

If money's a factor, I'd get the Timeless and wouldn't look back.

Even better, stay with the FH7 until you can audition one or the other you're interested in.

Money isn't a huge deal so if the FD7 is better in your mind I'd go with that one, but I also know price isn't everything so if you think the Timeless are just a special set I'd happily try them both.

In that case, if you never experienced planars, I'd get the Timeless first and then would move on from there if you like the signature given that I find they have strong similarities.

But that's me and my ears (and just a few hours with the FD7) so YMMV etc.

I am curious how they'll match up with the FH9 so I think I'll grab a pair. Are they the best planar IEMs?

NewEve could say for sure, but my understanding is you will get way more soundstage/holography with the FD7 (or FD5). I only have the Timeless, and for me it is almost entirely in-head. A couple instruments may stray outside the ears a tad, but not far. I love the imaging though; precise and fun. Great to just hit the green, lay back in bed, put on some righteous tunes, and see where the Timeless puts everything.
