but here we are so why not , here's some scattered thoughts..
I'm absolutely convinced synergy plays a
very rilevant role in audio on mid-high-end gears , I think matching gears ( interconnects , the most ) can help very nicely to find the right tonality and to add those micro and macro sound elements that's worth adding for portray accuracy , or more concisely to shift the sound to a better tonal result
I find differences between the meridian units , the g08 is a more refined machine . The g07 sound less precise , the g08 has more precise nuances . Both share a quite same sound signature . For the fun factor , on some tracks/performance/genres I quite preferred the g07. On others and for other sound matters , I like the g08 . Still getting through ..
What's worth the money , that's always one of the biggest question .. and when it's about audio gears the thing get very hard to manage in mind , and it's often the wallet that decide instead and do the choice in real ..
I decided to try all of them , thinking on an upgrade from my Shanling s100mkII , and being after a Wadia from a time I finally had the chance to pull the trigger on one used Wadia 301 .
At the moment the Wadia is on my ears from very little time , I'm at the third cd I put on ... if ears don't lie too much to me today I sense a softer and dryer presence , and I'm having fun on it -as opposite to trying to get into the sound , which is a rather important information in my own list of audio prefs - At first it seems (bit?) less refined then meridians ( which oppositely seem to show very soon the details retrieval power and ability )
There's a nice bloom/presence on mids and bass , and the sound is nicely smooth but precise in timing throughout these frequences. The highs feel bit more detached from the rest , (harsh?) ; whereas I seem to feel they're more naturally and silky connected on the rest of frq.s on meridians , and without
any hint of glare or harshness . Super smooth .
The g08 is a very fine source ; definitely you hear what's upsampling about with it quite from the beginning. I had to "adjust" to the sound a bit more then I usually do with gears ..
The g07 is a fine source too ; the more you pass time with the more you see the different colors it's able to get from the signal . It's a bit more veiled then the g08 ( and the Wadia seems to be more upfront&lively of both on first listen ) . Same adjusting needs..
Both seem to present the sound ...mm... as a bidimensional picture ( not to say they lack soundstage , but that's the closest metaphor I can tell about how they sound to me ) . Both are smooth , and rather dark , and rich , and omogeneous sounding . What I sense is details ( both are very detailed the g08 is a more refined detailer ) are brought out on a quite little separation of layers ( my ears ! , and early impressions in fast comparo with the wadia .. many things can easily change in fact the more you get used to a sound or another ) ; and , the stage - on the g07 more then on the g08 - feels mellow , and quite dense , but not in a bad way .
I don't know if you can grab much sense from what I wrote need a little more time with this three cd players to list in a better way impressions ( and to my own self too before posting ;p )
