Does the dr7 have enough power for the ety4s phones?

I am just getting into md for it's portability, but do not want to have to buy 4ps just to get decent sound. I just bought a Sony n510 which I will probably return. It just can not drive the 4s.

Thanks!

Hi. I personally have never used a sharp minidisc but they are supposed to have higher sound quality and output than sony players. So if the DR7 cannot drive the ety4S, then surely no sony player would.

speaking of which, where did you buy the N510 around san jose?

Are you positive that it is the Sharp MD-DR7? I was under the impression that this was a Japanese only MD recorder. It has different names in a few other countries, but isn't imported to the US, and definately not for $150.

If I'm wrong then sorry - Go pick up one quickly!

I don't really want to hijack this thread, but how does one go about getting a Sharp DR7 since they are not imported here?

Audio Cubes also has it for the same price. They have voltage converting transformers for both US/Canada and Europe. That's where I'm going to get mine anyway...

Oh, yeah, forgot.. Sony MD's have 5mW + 5mW through 16ohm.. DR7 has 8mW + 8mW through 32ohm. 5mW through 16ohm is like 2.5mW through 32ohm.. Hence, DR7 has more then three times as much power then your n510 through it's headphone out

i think joelongwood can fill in on this. and leon has the ds8(5mW per channel; 32ohms) and he used to directly plug in his er4s staright to the unit. iicr, he loved it. hope he sees this thread. i have the er4p but my 4s is in the booster of my supermini v5 and i don't have the 4s cable adapter to check your dilemma for myself.

based on what i have:

dr7 + er4p = amazing detail. revealing every bit of your music upto the pops and wheezes of the recording and mixing. (best new md portable setup)
dr7 + er4s (w/ supermini) = eargasmic experience that can beat my d303's headphone out

I've tried both the 4P nd 4S with the DR7. To be honest, both sound fantastic, but the 4P has more "oomph" in it. The 4S really needs an amp to reach its potential. It sounds a tad thin in comparison to the 4P. If I didn't have the 4P, however, I'd be very happy with the combo. Hope this helps.
