Hi all!
Is iPod Mini really capable of driving the er6 without an amplifier? I considered er6i, but I really do prefer black color to white one and two-flanges to three-flanges.

Compared to the ER-6i, the ER-6 is much harder to drive. Therefore, you will not the get most potential out of them by driving them with just the iPod. The ER-6i on the other hand is better impedance matched to the iPod.

As for sound quality. IMO, If you are driving them with just the iPod, the ER-6i's sound very good. I have not heard the ER-6, but most of the posts I read here state that the iPod cannot drive them to their full potential. As for the poster above who stated that the ER-6i's sounded horrible out of the iPod, that is not the consensus of most of the posters here. In the end, it all depends on personal preference. If you like to hear alot of detail, you can't go wrong with the ER-6i's.

I'm with you on the color though. I do wish the ER-6i's came in black.

ipod stock earbuds = 32 ohms
etymotic er-6 = 48 ohms
etymotic er-6i = 16 ohms

imo er-6i or er-6 are equally suitable or
unsuitable for ipod's, as there is some
trade-off involved in the lower impedence
of er-6i's with regard to the ipod.

Get yourself a mini amp like a cmoy to improve the sound.

I have er6 phones being driven by a creative zen xtra with no amp in line at the moment and they sound excellent IMO. Once a get a good seal with the phones the sound is well balanced and very detailed.

Not for my setup. er6i + 4gb nano sounds great.
If you want to get more bass without amp, just use mp3gain to back down the gain tag to 89dB and then u can use the ipod bass booster EQ without any distortion.
