In my view it depends on the brand. AK players are equipped with poor EQ capabilities, IMHO, accompanied by a considerable decrease in volume output when the EQ is enabled, almost to "discourage" its usage.
However Sony, Fiio and iBasso take EQ very well and I use it when necessary.
