What are the pros and cons of using a dedicated DAP vs. a phone and a DAC/Amp?

It varies from user to user I would say. I personally use a DAP because I use an iPhone which has a lightning port which is very picky with its power output and non expandable storage.
The DAP acts as a transport for my music and it is convenient to me to have a dedicated device with its own dedicated battery life for music. Depending on the price point I would say dongles or portable DAC/amps offer greater value than some DAPs in my opinion.
In more subjective thoughts I would say that I use a DAP for listening in situations where I wish to unwind and not be tempted to scroll around or answer emails on my phone as the DAP basically does that terribly lol

Many daps have systemwide audio tweaks and optimizations that can't all be achieved in stock phones. They're also generally constructed to shield from noise and emi.
