I've noticed a few posts where people have issues with knowing easily Left and Right sides for their IEMs. I was wanting to share some ideas and receive some as well.

First off, the number one way I know Left from Right on a pair of IEMs is as I'm unwrapping from around my Nano I look at the plastic Y and remember whether or not the symbol faces in or out. For instance when I had E4's the plastic on the Y had to be facing me to be correct. More recently for example, I know that my Superfi 5's the symbol has to be facing out to be correct. Knowing this makes untangling minor twists in the cable, along with already knowing which side belongs to each ear much easier.

I have in the past tried painting a circle around the Left ear piece since I'm left handed for easier management, but now I find just looking to the Y faster.

Does anyone else have any short cuts to preventing having to use a magnifying glass to see the tiny L or R symbols? This could easily apply to headphones as well but the majority of the time its much clearer and simpler to know left from right on headphones.

I feel JCV did it best with the fx-33.

They put a little bump on the left earbud. So even in the dark, all you had to do was feel which one was left, leaving the over for the right.

J-cords provide an easy solution, but for some reason, not many people here seem to like the j cord.

They don't allow for easy wrapping around the ear and most of the cords people think of off the bat are cheap $10 headphones and associate Y cables as being higher quality. At least for me.

A J-cord is one that instead of being a Y slides more toward the side of your Left Ear resulting in a really short Left cord and a shorter than Y cable on the Right Side.

With my custom Ultimate ears, its hard to shove the left driver in the right ear. Yea, I'm kidding and I have added nothing to this thread.

With my e4c, I never know. I don't think I ever knew. I just crammed them in.

Shure: hard to explain, but I can tell by the angle of the phones hanging from the cord.

Same here.

I know that my modded UE sf3's always have the logo facing backwards. Thank you memory wire.
