Do you care to elucidate why? I only have brief experiences with the UM2. I don't know if they are more forward or fun than the E500.

Anyway, to the OT, to my ears the E500 are more forward and fun than say a HD650, as they push forward an edge and dynamic punch that the Senns are hesitant to do. I don't find the E500 to be as fun and forward as a Grado SR-225 though.

Relative to the other IEM, I find the E500 to be more forward and fun than the E5c. The bass is certainly more fun than the E4c. I would say it's a more "fun" IEM than the Ety ER4 or my Sensaphonics 2X-S, though I'm hesitant to say it's more resolving or detailed than either. If I had to choose an IEM for forward and fun, between the Sensas and E500, I'd choose the E500. But I don't think it has the same level of depth.

My brief recollection of the UM2 is that it is plenty forward and fun, though perhaps lacking in the transparency and contrasting/sharpened detail that the E500 has. I can't say which is more forward or fun, however.

Best,

-Jason

I was just reading up the recent thread about the UM2 vs. E500. From what I gathered (the OP should go there too), the E500 surely improves the UM2 all around, but the general sense is that it's not really a $200 difference.

Thanks for all the opinions,i really appreciate it,the general impression that im getting is that with trip flanges the e500 can be musical and involving with tight bass that isnt overwhelming.Would ny1 else agree??

While I preferred the triflanges with the E5Cs, I don't like them with the E500s, I find they attenuate the treble. Some have said that modifying the triflanges has improved the sound in this regard but I have still yet to try this myself. Personally I find the more firm, clear buds sound the best of those supplied with the E500s by default.

Yah, the tri-flange with Shure E500 really rolled off the treble quite a bit, but you can fix it by using some EQ.

The difference with the same tips when using E5c & E500 is there, because E500 have longer nozzle that goes deeper into your ear canal. It is also a little bit larger in diameter than E5c nozzle - you can notify this when using yellow shure foamies... the "hole" is stiff, compared to flex tips, and you can
easily see its not as easy to put yellow foamies on E500 as it was with E5c.

Myself, I used gray flex Shure tips sized Medium on E5c, now with E500 I am using same tips, but in had to change size to small, as medium hurt my ears... they went to deep into the ear canal, and werent comfortable at all.

Of course all ear canals are born different, but this might be one of the reasons you had to tweak a little with tips. With IEMs you ear canals act as some sort of resonance chamber.
