Hi all. I don't post often but thought I would share my experience using the ACA amps to drive headphones.
I built a pair about a year ago. The build was extremely straight forward and I had a lot of fun. I have a Jzm waiting to build next
At the moment I have them set up Roon -> Holo Red -> Holo Spring 3 -> Holo Serene -> ACA monoblocks.
They sounds absolutely awesome! I am using them with 1266 TC, LCD 5 and Raal CA1A.
Initially I tried just one ACA, the results were ok but it all felt a bit too soft. When I switched to both it really came to life.
The 1266TC work really well on the ACA's but the biggest improvement is with the CA1As. I had found them a bit thin (especially compared to the LCD5 and TCs). When I put them on the ACAs they are absolutely transformed. For reference my other amps are an Ampsandsounds Nautilus and ifi iCan Pro Signature.
The CA1As seem to really like the way the ACAs drive them. It could be that they just need more power. I didn't think the iCan and the Nautilus were too bad in this department, but there you go.
I would love to take the two ACAs, put them into one chassis, with an XLR 4pin on the front, a soft start (and/or other protection) and possibly an internal power supply. But I don't have the talent to design this
.
They do run, very hot! Might have a look at building the ACA minmax when they are back in stock.
