I want to use it with my ATH-M40X for classical music. How is the sound compared to the iBasso DX90 DAP which i will son get?
Also what is the difference between an amp and a preamp and how is a receiver different than a DAP and good soundcard?

Do you already have the Yamaha RX-V565? If so, you should simply try it. Of course the DX90 should be a better unit. It's headphone amp/dac/music player. It's designed for using with headphones. Headphone capability on receivers is typically an add-on feature, not a primary purpose of the receiver.

No. Your AVR is all kinds of components: pre-amp, amp, video to digital conversion, headphone amp, room correction software, dac, adc, etc.. So it's a complicated piece of hardware. Obviously, to get high end for all that stuff, you gotta pay.

Get a Denon 4520 for a higher end DAC: http://www.crutchfield.com/S-hbnjYbMpwsw/p_033AV4520C/Denon-AVR-4520CI.html :D

That being said, since you have the Yamaha, you should simply try it and see what you think.
