Hello together,
I`m new here so perhaps a few words about me: My name is Jan, I live in Germany and I`m a big HiFi fan since childhood. Had loudspeakers for many years, 2014 I wanted to listen (just for fun) to an HD800 and this was kind of an new world for me. Never heard anything before that could reproduce sound so clear, I bought one the same day. Listened to it over many years, 2018 I upgraded to the Focal Utopia. Since 2016 I sold my speakers, headphones are the way I love to listen to my music.
I`m not an native English speaker but I will do my best (-:
I'm planing to buy an new Headphone, I really like the Utopia sound but for my music I sometimes wish something with different bass response, also in the highs of this headphone there is something that does not sound right to me. The Utopia sounds a little bit to bright for me and the music I like to listen.
My HiFi Dealer gave me the new Dan Clark Expanse for testing, man, is this incredible. Feeling like back in the days when I first heard the HD800. The problem is, HD800 and Utopia are completely open, Utopia even has an mesh around the transducer inside. The Expanse is (more or less) airtight to the ear, that kind of confuses me. I got a strange pressure feeling on the ear after some minutes, I could perhaps live with that. The bigger Problem is that I can hear my heartbeat clearly after a few minutes, it feels like air pressure change to my ears in my heart frequency. My HiFi dealer told me this is often the case but normally it will get comfortable after a few weeks.
Need to say I use my headphones daily, often for many hours. I also love video games, with the Expanse it is not possible to play games at the moment. Heartbeat is to present in quiet areas.
So what would be your suggestion? Is this really normal and will be no issue after a wile or are my ears/head just special and doesn't match to the Expanse? Perhaps somebody has had a similar problem an some experience if this will be solved by itself.
Thank you!
Best regards,
Jan
