I have just purchased a new mp3/cd player and I am hoping that it will loose a bit of the brightness and pick up a bit of the bottom end.

There are some that think components can change sound over time. I personally think that they don't, and even if they do, it would probablly take a VERY long time to notice even a subtle change, like several hundred hours. YMMV.
