I'm reffering to these kind of combinations:

M-Audio Revolution 5.1/7.1 vs M-Audio Audiophile 2496/192
Terratec DMX 6FIRE 24/96 vs Terratec EWX 24/96 and Terratec Phase 22

Do the "pro" cards of similar price outperform their consumer counterparts when it comes sound quality? Or is the difference minimal?

Basically for music yes, but for games no. That is unless you don't have a surround sound speaker system.
