And his name is Jon Gagan.

He's got two releases, Transit and funny enough, Transit 2. Not so creative in the titles of his releases, but a great recording (at least Transit, as 2 is in enroute).

For those who don't know him, he's the bassist for Ottmar Liebert, the Flemenco Jazz musician.

His main ax, I believe, is a electric fretless (which I absolutely love the sound of), along with acoustic and fretted on some of the cuts. His style isn't "smooth Jazz" per se, but leans more toward that direction. I'd like to call it "sophisticated" modern Jazz. I think if you enjoy the sound of the Yellowjackets, Chuck Loeb (on DMP label) or the earlier Acoustic Alchemy, you'll really like Jon's recording.

I'd never even heard of the guy, but they had his CD at a local 1/2 Price Book store for cheap, and it looked interesting, so I picked it up and was very pleasantly surprised.

Check him out.
