Does anyone knows the difference of standard elna caps and the elna-cerafine caps, sonically?? I can get the stan type at a local store but not the cerafine line. Thanks in advance.

The Cerafines are made exclusivly for audio.

I believe they are a faster cap than the standard (a higher slew rate which I think determines how fast it can dish out and take a charge) and the sonic improvements can range from none at all in a poorly designed circuit to unbelivable.

I have heard that Blackgates sound better but are also a lot more finicky needing to be burned-in after long idle sessions.

Here is what I know for sure. I replaced the power caps in my Meier-built Corda HA-1 from the standard 2*3300uf and 2*1000uf caps (that were probably pretty good to begin with) to 4*1000uf Cerafines and the result was absolutely astounding. The bass just tightend-up sooo much. It even got better as they burned-in.

The Cerafines can be hard to get a hold of though. Erix here on the board had some and was selling them a while back, I'm not sure if he has any left.

Personally, I'm so sold on these caps I want to order a WHOLE bunch of varying values (somehow I'm intrigued by the 100V 10,000uf caps that cost $39 each--if 4000 sounded that good certainly 40,000 would sound even better ;-)). Finding a source has proven difficult. Erix was just lucky enough to have a relationship (not that kind) with a vendor at his workplace that was a distributor for Elna products.

Elna ceased production of the Cerafine over a year ago. Some vendors may have a little stock left. Welborne has a few values left.

I realized that when I was browsing the archives. I wonder why elna-america.com still listed the cerafine in the product information if they stopped making it

Not all Cerafine Discountine ! Elna only discontinue High Voltage series like 450 DC and 500 DC Audio grade cap.

Elna still made Cerafine Cap up to 100V DC.

Elna just stopped making the big high voltage Cerafines. They still make them in volatges ranging from 6.3V to 100V and capacitances from .47uF to 6800uF.

But don't take my word for it!

ok,

Thanks eric for the heads up on these caps. regarding the Difference between Certfines and the standard RA3 series the RA3 sound slow and Bloated in the bass based upon the same value and voltage as the Tonex and Silmac, Ceraifines.
