Hey! I am in the used market for a Fostex Argon and i wonder if the mk2 and mk3 sound the same? Since mk2 is not more in production, is that one more popular/sought off to get?

What is a average used price for a tx0 argon mk2 mod and fostex t50rp mk3 argon mod?

Thanks!

From all the research I did before getting my Argon MK2, they are similar after the mods. I asked Ryan from ModHouse this exact question before ordering mine. This was his reply:

“As a general rule, the mk3 has a little less / smoother treble than the mk2, and the mk3 is more sensitive to pad swapping, but they are otherwise pretty close.”

Between $300 and $400 seems to be the going rate depending on the condition, options and accessories (pads, strap, balanced, cables, etc).

Had both, mk3 needs less power to drive. Personally I preferred the mk3 but there are many that prefer mk2. I also prefer smoother treble, so ymmv. They were both fantastic. The power consumption diff wasnt that huge. Mk2 was around 11 on high gain for my 789, mk3 around 10. I just felt the mk3 sounded smoother all around.
