OK, I've been trying to determine the next item I need to aquire in my quest for better sound. I've been mostly looking at threads which include such terms as S/PDIF, ASIO, kernel(ing?), coaxial and optical. I don't know what most of these mean, and I've been striving to determine them, but have so far had a difficult time applying what people tell me to what I actually need to get. So what I'll do, if anyone would be so kind as to help a fellow in 'need', is just state the setup I have and you fellows, with your experience, can point out the glaring problems... as I'm sure there are many many many.

Source: HP Pavilion dv1000 (no special sound card or anything on the source)
Headroom Desktop Portable Amp with DAC (connection is USB)
All my files are WAV, at 1411 kbps.
Presently, I'm learning how to use foobar, though I haven't found out how change the kernel thing (though I don't know what that is)

OK, so that's my present set up. What are the glaring issues? Is it the USB connection? Lack of sound card? Amp?

Rip me apart and thank you for it.
