Hi all! I haven't posted in years and don't really know what products are available these days. It might be the case that what I should get is totally obvious and I'm just oblivious.

I'm looking for a device for home headphone use that I can move from room to room. I'd like it to connect to Roon via wifi, stream losslessly, have a good DAC, and power a set of headphones. I see portable devices (Chord, Astell & Kern, etc.) that can do this, but they focus on battery power. I just want to leave the device plugged in. And I see other devices that are expensive (Naim Uniti Atom HE) or where the headphone output might be a secondary consideration (lots of streamers).

My main use case is to leave the device in my living room, but I also want to be able to move it relatively easily. As such, I don't want three devices (streamer, DAC, headphone amp) with power adapters. A one-box solution. Budget is flexible, but ideally under $1000. Under $500 would be even better.

Thanks!

Well you can get cheap Pi4 and use it as Roon endpoint in every room and just carry DAC/Amp. You will find better DAC/amp Combo. Roon Ready DAC amp combo bumps up the price point.

That might be a good way to go, though I might be tempted to skip the Poly and use my iPhone instead to save $$$. Is it ok to leave the Mojo plugged in all the time?

There is the newer version, Mojo2, which has some optimised charging, to keep battery healthy when permanently connected to power. But I have no personal experience with Mojo, I just recommended it based on your requirements. BTW, using your phone as the player, doesn't with fit with requirement of all-in-one device. It is certainly cheaper, though.

Mojo 2 is the one for desktop mode. Mojo 1 battery never gets disconnected and hence desktop mode puts stress on battery but new version has resolved this issue

Poly or 2Go.
