I'd plug the DAP into the speaker system, not the other way around.
Yeah you should have no problem. The player should appoximate a line level one way other another. You may need to adjust volume, etc. to get the best sound, but your player should be fine. Lots of us do it and there are even a few reports around of speaker manufactures using iPods, etc. at trade shows to demo their systems.
I wouldnt be so confident about not hurting my speaker system. I got a creative muvo into my Birdland DAC/preamp going into a creek class A integrated amplifier who powered some fine 1000 bucks Epos M12. I had to turn the preamp
to full power and then i had to turn the volume on the creek to almost unacceptabe levels (say 3 o clock) to get any decent sound out of the muvo. You know recommended levels are about 10 o clock. at 12 or higher your loudspeakers will go to hell sooner or later.
