Hello,

As a relative newbie in higher end equipment I am looking for help in choosing a suitable DAC which nicely complements the rest of my equipment.
I own the Meze Elite headphones (among a few others) and am looking for a suitable DAC. The AMPs I am using are the Topping A90 and soon the Cayin HA-6A. I am listening to a rather wide variety of music, but mostly enjoy Soul and (Hard-)Rock. Properties that are most important for me are detailed and musical/natural.
The budget would be 2000€, but around 1000€ is preferred. I am feeding the DAC through USB.
Interesting DACs I have considered so far are:
Musician Pegasus
Holo Audio Spring 3
Denafrips Ares/Pontus II
RME ADI-2 DAC FS
Chord Qutest
SMSL SU9 or Topping D90/D70

I am slightly leaning towards a R2R DAC, but am a bit worried that it might be too much of smoothness and I might be missing out on detail and precision especially with a tube AMP.
If you need a bit more information about the used equipment I will try to describe it briefly:
Meze Elite: Very smooth and pleasant to listen to, but at the same time detailed. Would describe it as equal parts neutral warm and V-shaped tuning.
A90: Very clean and neutral.
Cayin HA-6A: Have yet to receive it, but have heard it described as very smooth, musical and natural.

Thank you in advance for your help.

Thank you a lot for your input.
Do you know if the Pontus II is worth the additional price compared to the Ares II? Or maybe how the Musician Pegasus fits into this? As far as I read it is extremely similar to the Denafrips models.
